do we do it? > Mission and Vision Statements
The
Company aims to achieve this by harnessing the energies
and resources of the public, private and community sectors.
In particular, the Company aims to use the arts, community
celebrations and other means to promote the practical
involvement of local communities in physical regeneration,
in ways that contribute to community and economic development
and neighbourhood renewal.
The Company’s mission is:
- to lead and encourage leaders
- to combine commerce and community
- to reconnect communities
The Lower Lea Valley has been blighted for decades
by post-industrial dereliction and the communities within
and alongside it have suffered from a degraded physical
environment and high levels of social exclusion.
Major opportunities are now presented in east London
by:
- the accelerating development of the Canary Wharf
Business District
- the development of the Royal Docks
- the proposed development of a new “metropolitan
centre” on the Stratford Rail Lands
It is critically important that the regeneration of
the Lower Lea Valley and adjacent neighbourhoods is
woven into these other major developments, and that
local communities are equipped to shape and to benefit
from the regeneration of east London.
The Company’s vision is that the Leaside area
becomes home to a thriving and prosperous network of
communities integrated with the surrounding renaissance
in the East London economy.
