Development > Urban Design for Local People:
A workshop
In recent years the local stakeholders of Leaside Regeneration
have been consulted on housing, community engagement,
regeneration, physical development and many other things.
However, many of these people have not been given the
tools to engage in some of the consultation or more
importantly, how to influence change in urban design.
For this reason a one-day community workshop on understanding
the principles of Master Planning was developed with
local partner agencies and local residents. The aim
of the day was to enable local stakeholders (local residents,
community reps, local businesses and key regeneration
workers) with the physical environment – i.e.
Ailsa Street, – that is currently being regenerated
in the SRB6 area. In particular, we aimed to provide
guidance to the future development of Poplar Riverside.
This was done by providing local people with information
and knowledge, which allows them to shape, and benefit
from local regeneration.
The day will engage with local stakeholders to develop
a broader understanding of Master Planning; key problems
and solutions of urban design; and how their physical
environment and ultimately their quality of life can
be enhanced through physical development. An important
outcome of the workshop will be the empowerment of local
stakeholders.
